Intro Course Sept 2019
Two days of green wood furniture making at the Devon Green Wood Centre. This is the first time I have run a two-day intro course on a Thursday and Friday - I will be running more in the future as it allows people to enjoy the course, then be joined by family for a weekend away in Devon. The materials used were all sourced locally - amongst others, chestnut from near Bovey Tracey, ash from the Dartington Estate, oak slabs from Burrator Reservoir, and ash slabs from the Sharpham Estate.
Using froe, axe, drawknife and spokeshave they created over two days a unique and beautiful piece of furniture which will last for generations.
As usual an eclectic bunch of stools and tables were made, all in some way probably conveying something of the maker. You’ll notice a neat get around for a hole drilled too big for a tenon. One of the key skills of a furniture maker is knowing how to make a feature of your mistakes. The crescent moon is a nice touch!
