Trefoil Table Commission in Devon
The Trefoil Table was developed in 2012 in the workshop of Charlie Whinney, during a weekend-long exploration of steam bending organised by Grizedale arts. Titled New Green Wood, the weekend had the intention of bringing students from the London Design School together with local coppice workers. The weekend was a tremendous success, and I learnt a great deal about steam bending.
I have since developed more steam bent furniture, and developed the Trefoil design further. I have been selling my Trefoil Tables online, and through a select number of galleries. The table is made in my workshop in Devon, using locally sourced ash, oak or cherry. The glass top is cut and polished by Armada Glass, and toughened in Cornwall.
I have been asked on a number of occasions if I could make a low Trefoil table with a larger diameter. I have always said “NO”, until a request coincided with the lock-down in the spring of 2020, giving me ample time to put into developing the complex jigs and formers needed to make the table.
The table is now available in 4 different sizes:
Small - 43 cm diameter, 53 cm height
Large - 61 cm diameter, 53 cm height
Tall - 61 cm diameter, 72 cm height
Dining - 1.4m diameter
