Plenty of workshop time this January
It has been fantastic getting back into the workshop after a much needed Christmas break. Despite the third lockdown, I have been able to head back to my wood-fired workshop and pick back up some of my ongoing, longer projects after our rush of Christmas orders.
In the later months of 2020 it was a pleasure to have our handmade bee homes featured by The Devon Life Mag and The Sunday Times, and December was spent almost solely creating the postable items before the Christmas rush. Our bee homes have been buzzing out of the door lately, and in our bid to make all Christmas orders in time there was a slight miscalculation with our bee home boxes.
These have all now safety arrived with their new owners, and it is delightful that so many people ordered bee homes and bird boxes for their gardens. It brings such joy to know there are so many people out there with such love, passion and admiration for nature as we have. In the last decade, over 30% of bees have disappeared, which has impacted many industries and areas of nature. The National Geographic has some great advice on what you can do at home to help the bees and our bee homes are available on our shop.
Beginning back with commissioned projects, these beautifully crafted, handmade wooden diffuser lamps that were made to order, are off to a customer this week. These can be made in ash, oak, cherry and walnut, and though the largest here is 70cm we can still go bigger if required. The larger the shade, the heavier these shades are. The beauty of these shades is that they fit into so many interiors, from your main single light fitting, to an arrangement of multiple shades in a range of sizes floating freely over your reception room.
During these winter months, our shades and clump lamps show their true beauty and usefulness, creating a warm light on those cold and crisp winter mornings. Coupled with some eco-friendly bulbs, these lamps can provide an energy-friendly lighting option all day. We can also offer diffusers to help the light glow further. These diffuser sheets are made to fit our handmade wooden lampshades perfectly, for an even and snug fit. These are also fantastic to cover up your bulbs for a smarter finish.
Ash shades give off the most light, and emit a lovely golden glow. Cherry shades are warmer still, but give less light - we like them in our bedroom. Oak is very popular for people wanting to match with other furniture or flooring. We can create these shades to fit almost any lamp type you have, simply get in touch to discuss your commission.
I really enjoy creating these wooden lampshades and seeing them in use. My clump lamps include handmade wooden lampshades on all orders. Here are the shades in action..
