Scriven Table Commissions
Many years ago I was fortunate to mill up a large London Plane tree which was growing just outside a neighbouring town of Yealmpton. There were two enormous slabs from a burly end which I kept in their enoromous 3 inch thickness. One of them got sotlen from the golf course across the road where I was storing them temporarily. The other got moved around, until eventually it found a home, as all things do.
I had a customer contact me after seeing my work in The Times newspaper. As he was not local we had a video call where I showed him some of the boards we had in stock, and examples of work made from similar timber. He chose the London Plane for it’s stunning colour and figure. I made some chunky ash legs for it, and put them in the drying rack. We usually have a good stock of legs already dry, but these needed to be chunkier than anything we had. He coincided a mini-break in Devon with collecting his table, which fitted comfortably in his car.
