Large Salix Chair

from £900.00

An, elegant, light, yet supremely comfortable chair using the properties of steam bent sycamore, and willow.

A hand textured English beech seat is less slippery than a conventionally sanded and polishedfinish.  The backrest and arms are cut from a straight and knot-free piece of english beech.  This is carefully shaped using traditional tools such as the draw-knife and spokeshave.  The component is then steamed for over an hour, making it pliable.  It is then bent and twisted in one quick operation.  The bent and twisted arms catch the light beautifully, adding a strong sculptural presence to this chair.  The arm rests are the perfect height and angle for relaxing in. The beauty of willow is not only in its creamy colour, but in its strength and suppleness, affording a little 'give' in the back rest.  This chair is not produced by machines.  Each component and surface is carefully hand worked, and consequently feels "alive".

The Salix chair is available in two widths - and can be made to order from a variety of woods. Please contact me for details.
