Introduction to Spoon Carving with Alex Finnberg

Learn the ancient skills of spoon carving and make some beautiful spoons of your own to take home! This workshop is a perfect introduction to knife and axe carving and the wonderful world of green woodwork; with no previous woodworking experience necessary. Using freshly cut green wood and age-old techniques, you will learn all you need to turn a log into a beautiful functional spoon using three simple tools: the axe, straight knife and hook knife. We’ll focus on carving techniques that will allow you to carve safely so you can go away with the confidence and the wherewithal to continue to carve at home. There will be the opportunity to buy all the necessary dedicated spoon carving tools at discounted prices, including a full starter kit to get you well and truly hooked! This course makes for a truly enriching day, the process of carving a simple wooden spoon from a block of wood is deeply satisfying. All tools and equipment provided.

Please bring sturdy footwear and warm clothing suitable for the outdoors and a packed lunch. Ample tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided. Please arrive promptly for a 9am start. Adults (18+) Only. Course bookings are non-refundable Dates cannot be changed once booked.
