Children's Lamp-Making Workshop
Children will have the opportunity to explore their creativity in a family-focussed lamp-making workshop. Guided by myself and my wife, Becky Crawford, participants will learn the basics of lampshade design, and woodworking with hand tools.
Each child will make a lampshade using wax-resist pastels, and high-quality watercolour paints, allowing them to personalise their creations.
The hands-on woodworking experience not only fosters creative skills but also encourages children to use and explore sharp tools in a safe, nurturing environment. Starting with a simple stem they will learn to use the drawknife and spokeshave to create an elegant tapering lamp stem. They will refine the shape of their base, mount the stem, and learn some simple electrical wiring skills. By the end of the workshop, each child will leave with a handcrafted lamp to brighten their bedroom, instilling a sense of accomplishment and pride in their work.
This is a half-day course. Minimum age - 8. Each child must be accompanied by a paying adult. Maximum two children per adult. Adults will also produce a lamp.
