Bespoke Letter Carving

We are often asked to create bespoke benches for our customers. One lovely way to truly personalise a bench or other piece of furniture is to engrave, or carve lettering into the wood. We have completed a number of outdoor seating commissions recently which have incorporated bespoke letter-carving. We can either design a characterful lettering stlye, or use a standard, readily available font to work with. Our benches are usually made fo either oak, or sweet chestnut. Both are extremely durable outdoors, age gracefully, and carve beautifully.

If you would like to commission a letter carved bench please contact me using the commissions page.

Below are a few examples of work we have completed.

A "Bovey" Bench carved with text from Hamlet - commissioned for a well-known actor by his wife.  The text was copied from a sample of the wife's own handwriting.

Kew style bench to commemorate a much-loved and missed husband.  The text is taken from 'Fern Hill' -  a vey beautiful poem by Dylan Thomas.  Learn about this bench here.

Bovey Style Bench carved with a single letter representing the family name.

The big 'W'

Commemorative bench carved using a simple standard font.  More here.

One of my first community projects - this bench can be found in MacAndrews Field and commemorates the sacrifice of the “Bedford Boys” You can read more about this project in this blog post here.

We are always happy to consider letter carving in existing furniture if you would like to personalise a favourite piece. Just contact us using the Commissioning Page
