Dining Table Commission

These pieces were commissioned in 2019 for a private home and new gallery space on the Inner Hebridian island of Col.

Completed in 2020 using huge, spectacular olive ash boards bought a few years previously at Pugh’s auction house in Ledbury, where I happened to be visiting.

The legs and rails for both the table, and the Salix dining chairs were sourced more locally - wild English cherry from East Devon. The two end stretchers were steam-bent to allow more leg room. The table was fitted with breadboard ends to prevent warping across the width. These were finished with double dovetail inserts in contrasting cherry, providing a nice detail. It was shipped in four pieces - table top, two leg assemblies, and the centre stretcher. This was assembled by the customer on site, and the stretchers were finally fitted with their wedges. The table was accompanined by a set of 4 Salix Chairs, two Salix Bar Stools, and a large sweet chestnut coffee table with shelf. The whole lot was shipped to Glasgow, and then ferried across to the Isle of Col.

Below are some images of my work in their new home. Including Salix barstools, Scritti Desk, and Big No 4 shelves.
