Introduction to Green Wood Furniture Making
A two day course learning the skills and techniques of green woodworking, with an emphasis on contemporary design and detailing. Maximum of 8 students.
You will make either a low stool or a side table using a variety of hand-tools. Starting with a fresh cut log you will learn how to cleave the wood with a froe and wedges, then shape it on the shave horse with drawknife and spokeshave. You will learn simple techniques to make through-wedged-mortice and tenon joints. Use of contrasting timbers, and sculpted free-form table tops or seats are all available options, depending on your skill level and confidence. All timber supplied on this course is locally sourced. This course is a great introduction and is suitable for beginners and intermediate learners of woodwork. Even experienced traditional woodworkers will take away new skills as green woodworking uses very different tools and techniques. Course dates can be found on our course calendar and all courses are held in my wonderful heated workshop near the sea. Click here for some options of places to stay locally.
